Inner Line Permit – Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh falls under restricted area, official permission is required to enter the state, therefore the visitors other than natives of Arunachal Pradesh are required to obtain an Inner Line Permit ( ILP ) to enter Arunachal Pradesh. The Permit is granted as a routine for the tourists and so it should not deter any tourist from coming to Arunachal Pradesh. Inner line Permits are issued by the Secretary (Political), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, respective Deputy Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Districts. These can also be obtained from Resident Commissioner's office / Deputy Resident Commissioner & Liaison Offices.

Inner Line Permit – Sikkim

Foreigners must obtain Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit Sikkim. These can be obtained from all Indian Missions, Sikkim Tourism Offices at New Delhi, Kolkata, District Magistrates Office of Darjeeling, Siliguri, and Rangpo on the strength of an Indian Visa. The 30 days duration Permit is issued on the spot without any delay provided photocopies of the passport and visa along with two pass port photos of the applicants are made available. The permissible duration of the stay for foreign tourists is 30 days initially.

The State Government is authorized to extend the same by a further period of 30 days. The extension of the permit can be obtained from FRO at Gangtok and office of Superintendent of Police of the North, West and South Districts.

For those interested in going for trekking in the interior region of the state, the Tourism and Civil Aviation issues Protected Area Permit (PAP) at Gangtok which is available for certain specified area for groups consisting of two or more foreigners subject to condition that the trekking programme is arranged through a registered travel agency.

Inner Line Permit – Ladakh

Places that require Inner Line Permit for Ladakh : Changthang [Only issued to Indian citizens, foreigners not allowed in this region] – For visiting areas like Chushul, Hanle, Loma, one is still required to obtain a permit. ILP is no longer required to visit Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, Tso Moriri etc. Please Click here to read about this. However for Changthang Valley, Inner Line Permit is still applicable. Read on to find out about how to obtain an ILP. No permit is required for local sight seeing around Leh, Zanskar Valley, Suru Valley. Permits are now also issued for Kargil, Chitkan, Dah, Garkone, Darchik and Batalik.

Please also note that even after obtaining the ILP for Changthang, (Chushul, Hanle), there is still a chance that you can be sent back by Indian Army. You are also not allowed to carry any photographic equipment if travelling to Hanle. You will have to submit your cameras at Loma check post and collect it while on your way back.

Where To Apply for ILP : This permit is issued at city’s DC office which remains open from 9 AM till 5 PM, Monday to Saturday, however ILPs are only issued between 10 AM till 3 PM.

Where to obtain the Application and ILP form : This form is available at the DC’s office, at a photo copy shop located in office premises. Alternatively, you can inquire at your hotel because usually all the hotels and guest houses keep a copy of it for their guests.
