Dirang

Updated: Apr 29, 2018

Today was the first day of ride into the Himalayas.

We are heading into Dirang which is 125kms from Bhalukpong.

Strapped and loaded we headed towards the ranges. The road for most of the stretch till our first halt for tea at Thumpke was under construction. Most of these parts of road was unsealed and filled with pod holes and rubble, There was a lot of dust as well.

It was My Himalayan's first off-road experience and it performed quite well. I am very happy with the way it handled.

The only issue was the weight with all the luggage. I ended up dropping it twice while stationary.

Our first halt was Thumpke for a nice cup of tea before our next leg towards Bomdila.

Heading into Bomdila it's another 60kms to go. Half way through we were hit with a light shower. We quickly grabbed our rain gear and started going ahead and within 10mins we got into heavy rain all the way until Bomdila. Our hands were freezing and we knew we needed something hot to get us going. So it was time for a lunch break and shot cup of tea for starters.

The place for that was Elegant Restaurant.

We ordered a cup of tea to warm our hands and later a big lunch, Chicken curry Thali.

We spent about an hour at Elegant Restaurant before we were ready to head to Dirang.

So last leg of today's journey and we are off to Dirang. 40kms to go. The roads are exceptionally good and wide for this 40kms to Dirang, so it did not take us long to get there. We took Shelter for the Night at Avoo Resorts, Damage Rs2000 for the Night. Room Deluxe with a balcony and view of the town.

We decided to do a tour of the town , so luggages off the bike and we headed out.

First stop was Thubsung Choling Monastery. It is sort of set high up in relation to the town.

After this visit , we headed to the river flowing along the town.

Finally we ended going into the town to have a cup of tea.
