Hi Nitin,

Yes, for your situation, if you only reach to Lhasa, it is unnecessary to change the border to Ruili, so you have to wait until the border between Nepal and China reopen.

At present, I can only provide a reference cost by the situation in 2015, honest speaking, it is not cheap to do this ride in Tibet area.

For 4 bikes + 4 riders, the tour cost is around 49, 360/group, but need a support vehicle which cost around CNY 19, 800

If there is 1 car join, that to say 4 bikes + 4 riders + 1 car + 1 driver, then the tour cost is around CNY 59, 350/group, no need the support vehicle.

In addition, if you enter from Nepal, one thing still need to note, that is for Chinese visa.

From Nepal into Tibet directly, you can only apply and obtain a group China travel visa in the Chinese embassy in Kathmandu, even there is only 1 participant, he/she need to apply such visa.

You should apply Chinese group visa in Kathmandu with the LOI issued by the Tibet Tourist Administration which your Chinese agent (such as NAVO) can provide the assistance, moreover, you should commit a local agent in Nepal to do visa application for you, for this, you can find a reliable one by your own, or if need help, we can recommend some to you. About the time, the Tibet Tourist Administration does not issue the LOI very early, usually, it will be issued within 10 days before visitors entry date. So you can do the visa part around 1 week before your entry.

Unlike the individual visa which is attached in one’s passport, the group visa is a separated paper, on which, the name list (name, nationality, passport number, etc), travel duration are showed. Even if one has got the individual China visa, it is invalid at Zhangmu border, the border only allow one’s entry with the group visa.

Special Note: In accordance with the China visa policy, group visa requires all members in this group must entry or exit at the same time in valid date. For group visas can not be postponed, can not be separated in China.

Hope all this make sense to you. :)

Best regards

Lisa
